Continuous improvement is a valuable method that once successfully implemented will make teams and entire organizations grow. That is – if everyone is on board. And that often turns out to be the biggest challenge.
Brain Rules are the tools that will change everything. By working with the power of our minds, you and everyone in the organization will finally make the ‘click’ you need to realize a sustainable change together.
Brain Rules make change natural!
Make it happen!
Why is it, that change can be so difficult? We have all the knowledge we need about successful improvement methods. We know it will work! But… it’s just not happening.
Change doesn’t happen by itself. It doesn’t happen because a consultant or manager says it’s better to do it this other way. And it doesn’t happen after reading a piece of paper or attending a mandatory course.
You can make change happen when you are aware of how the brain works and when you let people experience the positive effects the change has on themselves and their teams.
What are Brain Rules?
Brain Rules are successful change methods that combine organizational knowledge with psychology and neuroscience. Brain Rules are all about how the brain works. When you understand the rules by which our brain works, you can apply these rules to accelerate change with the people in the organization. It will be so much easier to work together and make an actual culture change.
Brain Rules revolves around working with people and understanding these 4 essential rules you need to play by in order to drive change:
- The fulfillment of the basic psychological needs, to develop mastery, be connected and have a degree of autonomy.
- The need to control or eliminate the sources of stress.
- The fact that behaviors are primarily influenced and controlled by their consequences.
- The drive to create harmony between your beliefs of what is the best thing to do and what you actually do.
What will Brain Rules do for you?
With Brain Rules you will be able to finally overcome that formerly insurmountable, hurdle of engaging people in your vision of the company to become an organization that continuously improves their ways, that sees setbacks and problems as opportunities to learn and to improve and that breathes positive cooperation.

Join the program!
Y47 has been using Brain Rules for over 10 years as a successful method to implement LEAN thinking and continuous improvement. We see it works and now we want to make it available to you!
We offer The Brain Rules program:
- To allow your organization to effectively develop a culture of continuous improvement behavior,
- To help your improvement or OPEX people effectively coach their colleagues’ improvement behavior
- To set up structures that support improvement behavior
Over the course of a year we will coach and support you with:
- Interactive workshops
- Hands-on experiences
- Master classes
- Personalized coaching
- Practical on-the-job support
Set up for Success
(4 months, 2 days per week)
- We kickstart and implement the development of continuous improvement within the organization with a carefully selected group (up to 10 individuals).
- Once the team is assembled, this team sets the goals and charts the path ahead.
- In masterclasses we will introduce the Brain Rules that influence behavior and explain how incorporating these into the change process can effectively reshape individual behavior within the organization. Reflection on current behavior and exploration of future behavior is an essential part of this phase.
- We will refine the psychological skills team leaders need to support the changes in their team’s behavior and establish structures that make it easier for employees to exhibit continuous improvement behavior. These structures present optimal moments for coaching, cultivating, and reinforcing improvement behavior.
- We establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that guide, motivate and support employees in their improvement behavior.
- The new behavior is put into practice under guidance, starting with simulations and later on the shop floor. Regular on-the-job coaching and reflection are key elements of this process.
* The program can be given in Dutch as well as in English.
Further development of capabilities
(1 month, 1 day per week)
- On the job coaching
- Personal coaching
- Team coaching
- Reflection sessions
- Peer to peer learning sessions (intervision)
* The program can be given in Dutch as well as in English.
Sustaining the improvement culture
(6 months, 2 hours per week)
During this final phase the culture of continuous improvement behavior becomes deeply ingrained in the organization, preparing it to continue independently.
- Personal coaching
- Team coaching
- Reflection sessions
* The program can be given in Dutch as well as in English.
The way forward
After a year, we assess the progress and jointly decide on the best course of action moving forward.
